The governments of Canada and Manitoba announced on August 13 that 1,075 new infant, preschool, nursery and school-age spaces have opened across the province since late 2025. Capital funding delivered three new or expanded centres in Winnipeg, while start-up and operating funding created 728 spaces across another 88 facilities, and the province added 347 school-age spaces.

Since October 2023 the two governments have opened more than 3,700 licensed spaces for children under six, with over 6,250 more in planning and development. Counting school-age care, Manitoba has now opened or committed to more than 12,700 spaces since fall 2023.

A useful benchmark for anyone tracking how expansion commitments translate into rooms families can actually walk into, and a reminder that school-age spaces are being counted separately from the zero-to-six targets.
