A New Standard For Canadian School-Age Care Educators

COMING SOON!

Introducing The PLAY EXPERIENCE: School Age Care Training – a comprehensive online hybrid program created by Out of School Care experts, for Out of School Care educators. This initiative directly addresses the longstanding gap in sector-specific training for educators working with middle-years children in Out of School Care (OOSC) programs across Alberta.

Professional development opportunities for OOSC educators have historically been limited, generic, and early-years focused. Existing entry-level training, such as Basecorp, only lightly touches on OOSC and middle years development and does not provide the specialized tools needed to support school-age children effectively. The PLAY EXPERIENCE sets a new benchmark for professional development by delivering holistic, inclusive, and OOSC-focused training designed to elevate daily practice and build long-term sector capacity.

Delivered in cohorts, the program blends flexibility and collaboration through:

  • 12 online self-paced eLearning modules (approx. 90 minutes each).
  • 4 reflective practice sessions with a Certified ECE trainer (45–60 minutes each).
  • Structured discussion guides that allow participants to reflect, share best practices, and form Learning Communities that extend beyond the training.

Rooted in child development theory, trauma-informed practice, emergent curriculum, and licensing standards, the training ensures knowledge is not only gained but applied in real-world practice. Educators leave with increased confidence, a stronger professional identity, and practical strategies that improve outcomes for children, families, and their OOSC programs.
