A provocation is a question asked with materials — set it up, step back, and watch what children do with it. This course shows school-age educators what Loose Parts are, the research behind why they work, and how to build a provocation with intention, starting this afternoon. You will explore how Loose Parts and provocations connect to STEM and project-based learning, see what provocations look like across every part of your program — from physical literacy and the arts to STEM, literacy, leadership programs, clubs, social-emotional learning, and free play — and learn to document children’s play with a simple planning sheet. You will leave with four printable tools you can put to work the same day.
